Preparing for Medical Travel: The Complete Packing and Planning Checklist

Documents, medicines, money matters, and the small comforts that make a hospital stay abroad easier — a practical checklist from our patient coordinators.

Traveller's suitcase and passport prepared for an international journey

After assisting thousands of patients since 2022, our coordinators know exactly what families wish they had packed. This is the checklist we share on every pre-departure call.

Documents that travel in your hand luggage

Passports and visas for patient and attendant, the hospital invitation letter, every medical report and scan (printed and on a USB drive), current prescriptions with generic medicine names, travel insurance papers, and passport photographs. Keep digital copies in your email or phone as backup.

Medicines, money, and connectivity

Carry your regular medicines in original packaging for the full expected stay, with the prescription. For money, a mix works best: an international card plus some US dollars to exchange. On arrival our team helps with a local SIM card and currency exchange guidance.

Loose, comfortable clothing, slip-on footwear, and something familiar from home — a shawl, family photos, a book of faith — make hospital days genuinely easier. Every SSF Global patient also receives a welcome kit with emergency contacts on arrival in Delhi.
